What are Essential Oils?
The Therapeutic Value of Essential Oils
Poetically called the "life force" of the plant, essential oils are very complex, concentrated and powerful, yet safe and easy to use, with a little common "scents." Essential oils are extracts from the plant fluids that maintain plant life. These fluids and resins move through the plant's circulatory system in the leaves, stems, roots, and flowers, carrying nutrition and oxygen into the plant cells and carrying waste products out, just as human blood functions in the body.
Essential Oils Penetrate
Because essential oils are composed of the tiniest of organic molecules, they can pass through cell walls and membranes delivering therapeutic benefits, not only to the plants that create them, but to people as well.
A single oil may contain hundreds of constituents that are molecularly aligned in exactly the right manner to trigger a number of quick and significant results. The properties of essential oils promote well being by supporting the body in cleansing, building and protecting.
Essential Oils are Aromatic
Fragrance is the substance of memories. It consists of volatile molecules that float in the air. Millions of olfactory receptor cells line the nose. Aroma causes these nerves to fire and send messages to the limbic area of the brain. Because the limbic system (associated with memory and emotion) is directly connected to those parts of the brain that control the heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress levels and hormone balance, essential oils can have some very profound physiological and psychological effects when inhaled.
Purchasing Therapeutic Grade Oils
In order to experience healing with essential oils, one must be certain that the oils are therapeutic grade oils grown organically, distilled properly, and bottled undiluted, unadulterated, and unchanged from their natural state.
Most essential oils available are food or fragrance grade oils which are not necessarily organically grown, are often extracted with chemical solvents, may contain synthetic components, and/or have been denatured, refined or diluted. Such oils are not therapeutic.
